Powers & Company has provided historic preservation consultation for the developer of the Hatboro Lofts in Hatboro, PA, a suburb of Philadelphia. Originally known as the Roberts & Mander Company Stove Factory, the complex has been rehabilitated using the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentive Program into residential units with retail spaces on the first floor. In 2004, Powers & Company listed this building on the National Register of Historic Places, qualifying it for the tax credit program.
The Hatboro Lofts, located at 237 Jacksonville Road in Hatboro Borough, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, is one of several buildings associated with the Roberts & Mander Company, an important manufacturer of gas and electric cooking ranges. The company relocated to this site from Philadelphia in 1918 and continued to produce stoves and ranges at this location until 1950. The main manufacturing building was constructed in 1925 along Jacksonville Road. Throughout this period, nationally-known Quality brand gas and electric ranges were produced at this facility. Roberts & Mander was lauded as largest producer of cooking equipment on the eastern Seaboard and their ranges were distributed across the nation and overseas.
As originally constructed, the front section on Jacksonville Road linked to four perpendicular wings that extended north to the railroad tracks. Over the years, the open yards between the wings were roofed over and made into interior spaces. These spaces have been freed of infill construction and are now functioning as landscaped courtyards.
