In 2006, Powers & Company, Inc. was commissioned to document and coordinate the submission of the Federal Historic Preservation Tax Incentive applications for the Bijou Theater and the Erwin M. Jennings Garage, two adjacent buildings on Fairfield Avenue in the Bridgeport Downtown South Historic District of Bridgeport, CT. Both buildings are being rehabilitated to serve as exciting new venues: a full service theater, two smaller theaters, a cafe, a restaurant, and offices.

The Bijou Theater, located at 227-275 Fairfield Avenue in downtown Bridgeport, CT, was built in 1909. Three stories in height, the Bijou Theater is a significant example of the Spanish Colonial Revival style with Arts and Crafts style embellishment, and an important work of architect Ernest G. Southey. Not only is the Bijou Theater one of the first buildings in the nation that was constructed specifically for viewing moving pictures, but it also has a two-story ballroom with a balcony on the 2nd floor, an unusual feature of early theaters.

The Jennings Garage, located at 277-281 Fairfield Avenue, was built in 1911. The trapezoidal building is four stories tall and is constructed primarly of exposed concrete and brick. Through its massing, fenestration and ornamentation, the Jennings Garage is characteristic of the Commercial style and emblematic of Bridgeport as an early urban-industrial center.
