In 2003, Powers & Company, Inc. was hired by the New Kensington Community Development Corporation, the owners of 2446-68 Coral Street, to nominate this industrial building to the National Register. The building was listed on the National Register in 2003 and was rehabilitated to include 27 artists' lofts. Situated at the northwest corner of Coral and E. Hagert Streets in the Kensington neighborhood of Philadelphia, Beatty’s Mills Factory Building, constructed in 1886, stands as an intact example of late 19th century textile mill architecture. Beatty’s Mills Factory Building is significant for its association with an important local yarn manufacturer and as an example of the Italianate style applied to industrial architecture.
On May 3rd, 2006, Powers & Company, Inc. received a Preservation Achievement Award for the Coral Streets Arts House by the Preservation Alliance for Greater Philadelphia. |
