The Callowhill Industrial Historic District, a six-acre area roughly bounded by N. Broad Street, Hamilton Street, N. 11th Street and Pearl Street (one block north of Vine Street), is the focus of Powers & Company, Inc. during the fall of 2009, as it has been recently submitted to the Pennsylvania Historic and Museum Commission for review and proposed listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Callowhill Industrial Historic District contains a conglomeration of important industrial buildings at the peak of Philadelphia’s strength in the printing and apparel arena from the 1910s through the 1950s. The proposed district contains thirty-eight buildings, several paved lots and a railroad viaduct. The majority of the buildings are industrial: factories and warehouses. The area contains significance in industry and in the area of architecture for possessing a noteworthy concentration of local early twentieth century industrial architecture.
